THE EVENT

Conditions on the day were challenging in ways I was not expecting ... heat (!) and windy thus waves !

HEAT : Just before the start the organisers kept us 'waiting' in wetsuits in the sun, I was getting poached ! Took a while before I was comfortable again ... felt like ripping off the wetsuit @ the 400m mark!

WIND : was being channelled down the 1st straight (from the east), basically it was very lumpy and hard to keep a steady pace for the first 1000m. Tried to stay in the wake of other swimmers, but speeds never matched.

Had set myself a goal of under 40min ... came in at 44min 56sec. Training in the calm waters of the local lake I felt it was achievable; on the day, conditions prevailed !

Good day had by all swimmers swimming for the WCT, and the weather was simply amazing. Definitely will do it again ;-)
