Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Guy's and St. Thomas' Charity gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Well after 3,800 miles of training, wearing out 1 set of wheels 2 sets of tyres, 3 chains, 3 rear cassettes and 1 saddle, the big day looms ahead, oh and wearing, or should I say stretching the patience of my wife (who I owe a special thanks to for putting up with the training runs) to whom I owe a great deal of gratitude and could not have done this without her support.
The route has now been confirmed, and is:
§ DAY 1: Cycle from London through Kent and North Downs to Dover; ferry to Calais
§ DAY 2: Quiet winding roads and old market towns to Abbeville
§ DAY 3: Follow River Somme and mainly flat tree-lined roads to Beauvais
§ DAY 4: Rural countryside and villages to outskirts of Paris; finish under Eiffel Tower
§ DAY 5: Free to rest or explore Paris
§ DAY 6: Follow River Seine from central Paris; cycle undulating roads through small towns and vineyards
§ DAY 7: Quiet roads through ancient villages, farmland and woodland of Bergundy
§ Day 8: Hillier roads south to Lons-le-Saunier and the foothills of the Jura
§ DAY 9: Mountain climb of Col de la Faucille into Switzerland; fabulous descent to Geneva lakeside
§ DAY 10: Free day Geneva; return to UK
As can be seen, this epic 600-mile journey (graded as “tough” by the organisers) through Kent across France and eventually into Switzerland (all with an Alpine climb of some 11.8 km on day 9) all to raise funds for the paediatric renal ward in Guy's hospital.
Kids are terrible to keep amused, and on dialysis the problem is compounded by the lengthy process that they have to go through, entertainment centres alleviate this, but are not cheap, hence the madcap journey by bicycle to raise funds.
I hope that you think this is a worthy cause, and can help me to raise funds...
To those that have supported the cause so far, many thanks. I hope to update you all upon my return, and if anybody would like to bid for a second hand bike…..
