Story
Hi everyone,
A while ago I decided that I would run the Reading Half Marathon in March this year to raise some money for an African-led development charity called Stand Up For Africa (SUFA). The reason I chose this charity was because they do an awful lot to combat the fundamental causes of child poverty across Africa. They operate with both short-term and long-term goals that focus on improving the immediate situation facing many people across the continent, as well as helping people to help themselves break the cycle of poverty over time. Examples of current projects run by SUFA include the Matangini Water Project which seeks to provide the basic resource of safe water to primary school children across West Africa, as well as Children's Centres that provide a safe haven in which vulnerable kids can have some fun, are protected from the numerous dangers that pervade their lives, and can develop skills that will help them later in life. The Youth Drop-In Centre in Kampala, Uganda, is another example of a project in which young people living in squalor get an opportunity to get the education and skills required to help them help themselves. This kind of work is very important in places in which people simply do not have the same quality of life and opportunities as we often may have in this country.
Any money at all that you could give to help SUFA projects like these through sponsoring me to do this run would be greatly appreciated by myself, by Stand Up For Africa, and by the many people in Africa who benefit from such work.
Thanks,
David Pritchard
