My story
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Marie Curie Cancer Care gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
In 2008 my Uncle and Grandfather were diagnosed with Prostate and Oral Cancer respectively. I felt helpless. Apart from supporting them wherever/whenever I can, I felt that there was nothing significant that I could do. Until I read about the ways that I could help raise funds for those that make a difference.
Glen Tonkin, a friend who has lost his father to Pancreatic Cancer, and I were going to rise to the ‘Cork to Dublin Cycle Challenge’, cycling over 300km crammed into 3 days, in May. However, that event was cancelled and we were given the oppertunity to transfer over to the Canadian Rockies Cycle Challenge, 400km through undulating roads through the canadian rockies between canmore and jasper. It didnt take very long to make the decision! We have now have our fundraising target doubled which means twice the effort! We aim to raise over £5500 of sponsorship before we set off. There are many ways in which you can help us reach our target. But please don't feel that you have to contribute a cash donation, there are many ways in which you can help!
We have plans for fundraising which include a rubber duck race and BBQ in the river laroch on the 19th of April in Ballachulish ( a massive a Thank You must go out to all who helped organise the day and to all who really made the day a success, those who dug deep and donated so generously on the day and also in the Laroch and Antler Bars on the Saturday night before! We raised an impressive £1,160!! Thank you all so much!).
We are having a fun packed Race night with a difference in Newtonmore Village Hall on 9 May, 7.30pm. The horses are wooden with string attatched at one end of the hall and the jockys are at the other trying to wind in the horses a fast as they can! Ther will be a Tote, Raffle, and many other oppertunitys to win prizes/money! A bar will be open and you will have the oppertunity to have some supper supplied by 'whats cookin?'! for any more infomation about the night or for accomodation, feel free to ask either Glen tonkin or myself! See you all there!!
These events will of course, need sponsorship themselves. Races, raffles and Grand prize draws will mean top prizes to win, prizes which you or yor buissness could contribute to and be showcased in a positive spotlight!
So if you would rather contribute your services, products, meals, beds for the night,(for sleeping of course) or indeed anything that could contribute to make the above events a success then please do not hesitate in contacting Glen on 07595391102 ( glen@russwood.co.uk ) or myself, David on 07738537057 ( ballabear@hotmail.co.uk )We will be giving our events maximum publicity in local radio, newspapers and posters throughout the areas so keep your eyes and ears open for further details!
Thank you for showing your support of such a worthy cause!
Many thanks
David.
