We support people with aphasia to enable them to re-connect with life.

Story

Thank you for visiting this fundraising page. Please help me to raise money for Connect by sponsoring me to walk 346 miles from Boston in Lincolnshire to Barnstaple in North Devon. Connect is a small charity that has transformed the lives of people with aphasia, including the life of one of my best friends, Robert Thorling.

Ten years ago, when Robert was just 48 years old and at the peak of his career, he suffered a massive stroke. Suddenly he had difficulty speaking, and could no longer read or write. Robert had not lost his intellectual capacity - just the ability to communicate. Aphasia is not 'fixable', but it is 'liveable'. Connect helped Robert discover new ways to communicate and to regain his confidence.

In May I'm undertaking the Get Connected walk to raise awareness of aphasia and the services that Connect provides, by walking through,or close to, as many counties and towns in England as possible on a cross country route.

Sponsoring me through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support Connect - the Communication Disability Network will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor my walk and help people with aphasia re-connect with life.

Many thanks for your support.

About the charity

Connect is a national charity for people living with aphasia (communication disability) which is often caused by stroke. Aphasia can strike anyone at any age and at any time. 1 in every 200 people in the UK lives with aphasia and each person experiences it differently. Some people cannot speak at all, some people have just a few words. It affects reading, writing and numbers. Aphasia can lead to lack of confidence, depression, social exclusion – and people can lose their connection with the world. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Our vision is a simple one, we want a world where people with aphasia can re-connect with life again. Find out more about how we do that at www.ukconnect.org
