This April I'm running the London marathon to raise awareness and funds for Chestnut Tree House - the only children's hospice in Sussex.

The people at CTH care for children who will not make it into adulthood and support their families. They get little from the government so they need your help to keep going and open new rooms.

I’ve been running for a few years now and back in Sept 2007 I entered the Littlehampton 10K it offered a flat and fast course and I was in search of a good time.

The race was sponsored by CTH and as I warmed up on the start line I couldn’t help but notice 30-40 people all wearing shirts with "Jack’s Birthday Wish". They were all shapes, sizes, ages and fitness levels – running is such a superb sport – everyone is welcome, everyone is supported and encourage these people were exactly what the sport is all about – giving their all to support their cause.

When I got home I read about Jack, a very moving story about a boy who died on his first birthday at CTH; I read about all the amazing work that the people at CTH do; I read about how they needed more money to open more rooms. A sharp reminder that there are more import things in life than how long it takes me to leg it round 10,000 meters. I was inspired. I decided there and then that I would run the London Marathon and that I’d collect money to help CTH.

You can read about Jack's Birthday wish here: http://www.chestnut-tree-house.org.uk/default.asp?id=86

more about the hospice here: http://www.chestnut-tree-house.org.uk/default.asp?id=1

and for the runners among you: http://www.chestnut-tree-house.org.uk/default.asp?id=106

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Chestnut Tree House will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Many thanks

Dave
