On Sunday 23rd May 2010 I'm going to be running the Edinburgh Marathon to raise money for Ronald McDonald House in Glasgow.
Ronald McDonald House is an extremely worthwhile charity which provides free accommodation for families whose children are long term or critically ill patients in Yorkhill Hospital. Every year it provides accommodation for over 500 families and to do this it needs to raise in the region of £300,000 each year.
As many of you will know, Fiona and I had a wee boy, Craig on the 11th September 2009. He was born in Raigmore Hospital, Inverness but as he had a hole in his heart and problems with his breathing, he was transferred to Yorkhill Children's Hospital in Glasgow a week later. He spent eight weeks in Yorkhill while they carried out tests, but unfortunately he passed away on the 16th November.
Ronald McDonald House enabled us to stay a five minute walk from the hospital so that we could spend as much time as possible with Craig during his short life. It enables families, some of which are hundreds of miles from home, to live as normal a life as possible during a very traumatic time.
Having seen first hand how important this charity is to so many people, we're trying to raise as much money as possible to help Ronald McDonald House continue to provide this fantastic service.
