Story

Thanks for visiting Riding for Heroes fundraising page.

We did it, on the 27th September we rode our motorbikes for a minimum of 1000 miles in under 24 hours. We actually did it in just under 22 hours

The route that we took started at Peterborough > Dover > Folkstone >M25 > Winchester > Exeter > Bristol >Slough > Birmingham > Manchester > Leeds > South to the M6, M1, A14 junction > Thrapston > back to the start point, the service station on the 605,

The journey went well, unfortunately we encountered thick fog for most of the morning, "we set off at 3.15 am",  We decided to travel the A30/303 past Stonehenge, never saw it, too foggy. Apart from the standard queue on the M25, and an accident on the M40, encountering boy racers on the M6 at Manchester, we had no problems.

The bikes never missed a beat, "British Engineering at its best.

For safety I didn't allow anyone to take any energy drinks or tablets, caffeine will lift you up but then drop you down with a bump. The best fuel available is fruit cake washed down with water, (Mars bars will get you there, but fruit cake will get you back) A quote from my old sergeant major many years ago.

Thanks to mum for the fruit cake, it was delicious and kept us going for the whole of the trip.

We ached for a couple of days after the event, Tim slept most of sunday then was fine, "he is the youngest and looks like Ewen Macgregor " Simon went to work sunday night, "that's hardcore". I was fine until tuesday, fell asleep at work " only for a few minutes". Just realised that I am old enough to be Tim and Simon's dad, but only just.

We have finished the ride, but the need to help the service men and women is still there. Please help us to show our armed forces how proud we are of them and how much we appreciate what they do.
