My story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
WE DID IT !!
Between 3rd - 14th September my sister in law (Kate), brother (Peter) and I DID walk across England, following the established 190 mile long Alfred Wainwright "Coast to Coast" route, starting at St Bees Head on the Cumbria coast and finishing at Robin Hood's Bay in North Yorkshire.
The route crossed 3 of the National Parks, namely The Lake District, The Yorkshire Dales and The North Yorkshire Moors and despite torrential downpours and storm force winds we kept to our planned schedule by completing the route in 12 days, with only the odd detour forced upon us due to severe weather warnings !!
The aim remains to raise as much money as possible for the Myfanwy Townsend Melanoma Research Fund which raises awareness and funds research to find a cure for one of the most rapidly increasing forms of cancer in the world. For this reason this justgiving page will continue to receive donations up until the end of October 2008.
Our family and the Townsends have been good friends since all the children (6 boys in total) were very young and Myfanwy (Miff as she was affectionately known) looked after us all through school holidays and on many other occassions. Miff was very well known in the local area and everyone who knew her were very saddened when she died from malignant melanoma in 1999.
Her husband 'Harry' remains a very well known figure in the local community, not least because of his ongoing and dedicated fund raising efforts in both setting up the charity but also through his inspirational marathon events; the best known of which earned him the nickname of "Wheelbarrow Man" following his 800 mile traverse of North Island,N.Zealand pushing George the Wheelbarrow! No wheelbarrows for us, just rucksacks!
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Myfanwy Townsend Melanoma Research Fund gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
I would dearly love to help Harry raise much needed funds for the charity, so if at all possible please sponsor me now!
