My personal message:

WELL - I MADE IT!!

The Walk was challenging, and I was thankful for all the training I had done, but at the end I felt in very good form, despite the poor weather

A huge 'Thank You' to everyone who has sponsored me so far - including many anonymous donors I met on the Walk, as well as business colleagues, friends and family. You've all been simply brilliant! And there's still time for more sponsors to get involved!

Why did I walk Hadrian's Wall Path? To say 'Thank You' to my local hospital urology team.

A couple of years ago I was diagnosed with aggressive cancer. After trying various treatments, my 'medical team' decided my bladder had to come out. But instead of a simple removal, they offered me three operations in one! Sort of 'Buy one, get two free!'

[If you are squeamish, miss this next bit! As well as taking out my bladder, they removed my prostate (that also had cancer). Then they took a good chunk of my perfectly healthy intestine at the same time. They wanted to recycle this last bit of me to make my 'neo-bladder' out of it! Later they told me I was only the 5th operation of this kind they had done, but now I am living proof of the value of recycling!]

I cannot praise the Urology team at Wycombe Hospital enough. Two top surgeons, John Kelleher and Neil Haldar, and their team operated on me for 7 hours! And the nursing team were hugely supportive. In most respects, I am now as good as new. So I can walk Hadrian's Wall Path, from coast to coast, only because of the skill of the Urology team at Wycombe. I asked them to choose my charity, and they chose the Scannappeal. Many people would have problems diagnosed too late for effective treatment without this brilliant technology. I am one, so I am delighted to support this campaign to acquire more machines for the hospital particularly to help with prostate cancer diagnosis.

I hope my recovery will give encouragement to others faced with similar problems, and it will show you can get really fit again too. QED – quod erat demonstrandum, as the Romans would have said!

Please give whatever you can to help the hospital diagnose problems early enough to save lives.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Scannappeal will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Many thanks for your support.
