My story

The reason behind my cycle challenge is to raise money for Beaumond House Community Hospice which supported both Ann and Charlie Fehrs.  In 1994 Charlie was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and in this same year had 5 major organs removed.  In 1996 Charlie and his wife Ann decided to cycle from Lands End to John O’Groats.  In Leeds Ann had to turn home after becoming ill but Charlie continued on. Ann also became ill with cancer and in 1997 died in Beaumond House Community Hospice in Newark.

3 years ago Charlie and I spoke about taking Ann’s bike “Dawes” back to complete the same route as Charlie had taken in 1996 with Charlie as the backup driver.

This Summer myself and my son Leigh are keeping the dream alive and cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats on “Dawes” - revisiting Charlie’s well kept journal of the route.

The proceeds of the cycling challenge will go to Beaumond House Community Hospice, Newark, and also the Dialysis Unit at Nottingham City Hospital.  You can donate to Beaumond House Community Hospice here at “JustGiving”
