Watford Peace Hospice Starlight Walk · 22 May 2010

We provide support at end of life but the majority of our work focuses on supporting those with life-limiting illnesses who have many more years to live. That support includes symptom control, pain relief, companionship, spiritual support and improving the physical wellbeing of patients

WE DID IT!  Very warm night, but all four ladies completed the walk safely.  THE STAR-RAVERS - Shelby Squires-Harding,  Liz Treadaway, Parv Walling and Dawn Ayres thank all of those who have sponsored them for their support and donations are still coming in.  The site remains open for a while, so if you know anyone else that would like to contribute, they can do so online.   The Hospice needs every single penny it can raise this year.  Says Dawn Ayres, of Bushey Hall Garage:  "We could not have done it without the strength of support shown.  Thankyou everyone.  You have been amazing."  The half marathon, ladies only midnight walk on Saturday May 22nd attracted between 1100 and 1200 women.  Organisers set a target of £250,000 for Starlight this year.  But walkers were down in  number, so we now wait to see just how much Starlight will achieve this year.  We will keep the site updated while it remains open. The Hospice does such a great job, but only gets 20% of its funding, the rest it has to find itself.  If it does not get the £3.6 million it needs a year to run, the Hospice must cutback on services.  It has no choice.  Last year it helped 1000 terminally ill and those with life-threatening illnesses.  They were there for them when they needed help the most.

The Hospice, cares for people living with a life limiting or terminal illness and supports their families from across South West Hertfordshire. It provides inpatient care, day care, an outpatient service, a hospice at home service as well as bereavement support. Without your support, this vital help cannot be provided.

To date the Starlight walks have raised more than £640,000 for the Peace.  Thankyou for your support.
