Story

Thank you so very much for visiting my fundraising page.

Myself and nine friends ( Kathy Spindlow, Rebecca Boardman, Helen Whitehead, Chris Benson, Faraia Shah, Sam McDonald, Paul Hartley, Lian White and Leoni Brown) are doing the Greater Manchester 10K run on May 18th.  We have signed on for this run in the memory of my Son Christopher who was murdered on the eve of his 21st Birthday on 18th November 2007.

We will be running for Support after Murder Manslaughter Merseyside which is a self funding support group that offers emotional and practical support to all those who have been affected by a homocide with an all inclusive service that enable families like ours, to learn to rebuild their lives.  Every volunteer is a victims relative themselves and therefore can offer a very empathetic and unique support service that is not available anywhere else to each and every familiy.  They are there at the end of a phone any time, night or day whilst still going through rebuilding their own lives and dealing with the loss of their own loved one.  They never ask for anything in return, its unconditional support giving from the heart to those in need.

We were introduced to SAMM through our Family Liason Officer Pete Lee, again his support has helped us get where we are today.

Without SAMM, I would not have known that I could bring Christopher home for one last night before his funeral.  This option was never offered to us and I cannot thank them enough for enabling me to do one last thing for my son before we had to finally say goodbye to him.  I could talk to them and they would let me know that each emotion that flooded through me, I was not going mad, it was all completely normal in the grieving process.

A rememberance service was held in December and each murder victim' s name was read out and a candle was lit for each and everyone of them.  It used to be held in the crypt of Liverpool Cathedral but its no longer big enough.  It has now moved to the main body of the building.  Its so very sad to see  all the people affected by mindless acts of violence and this year, our family was one of them. But the worse thing is, the number of families are growing and this is why SAMM is now close to my heart.

I know that this time of year brings lots of organisations doing sponsored events, I too am doing the Cancer Research Race for Life 5k and also the Warrington Starlight Walk for St Rocco's Hospice but I really want to give something back to SAMM as they do so much for families during such horrific circumstances and ask for nothing in return.  They travel far and wide to provide much needed support.  We CANNOT do this without the help of our families, friends and colleagues and that means each and every one of you reading this page today.  My friends and I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to read my story and I hope you can see it in your hearts to dig deep and provide us with this much needed support.

The trial for Christophers murder starts on May 6th , not the best of timing but with everyone cheering for us, you can help pull us through this. We can raise so much money together...........WE CAN DO IT,,,,,,,,,,,,, WE CAN DO THIS FOR CHRIS!!!
