A huge thank you to everyone that donated. I completed the trek - in last place! It was tough but I was overwhelmed when I saw the bears and that made it all worthwhile.
I was so impressed with the work that the sanctuary does that I am doing the trek again in September 2011, and have persuaded my husband to do it as well. There is a new fund-raising page:

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
In September this year I will be taking part in the WSPA Bear Adventure. This will be quite a big challenge as it involves walking/trekking for 50 miles in the Carpathian mountains. The challenge also includes a significant amount of training beforehand. I am 53 years old and have never done anything like this before.
The aim of the adventure is to raise money to fund the WSPA Bear Sanctuary where bears that have rescued from ill-treatment can live out thier lives free from pain and suffering.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: World Society For The Protection Of Animals gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Thank you so much - every contribution is really appreciated.

The date of the trek is 6-12 September 2009, the target amount is needed by June 2009.
