Post Marathon Update:

What a fantastic weekend! Managed to get around the course in 4 hours 50 minutes - which is 20 minutes slower than I hoped. But the weather topped over 70 degrees, which was too much to handle. Still, except for the last 5 miles, it was great, great fun, and I managed to get a suntan!!!

A huge thank you to all my friends who sponsored me.

Roll on the next one........................(only joking!!)

Update 6th April 2009:

Just under 3 weeks to go and the body has already gone into shock. I've been following a running plan in Running for Idiots Weekly, and last week I had to "enjoy" an 18 mile run, and yesterday I had to "enjoy" a 20 miler. "ENJOY"!!!! Are they mad! believe me, there is nothing slightly enjoyable about running 20 miles in yesterday's heat. Got around in about 3 hours 20 minutes, which should have been slower - but near the end, a lady pushing a pram almost overtook me, and so I had to speed up.

That was the last long run, and now it's down to "easy, shorter runs" according to RFI Weekly - that means 13 milers!! If I ever get to meet the moron who writes this stuff...........................................

I spoke to a proper runner yesterday (You know who you are Ginger) and now we have to cut back on alchohol and egg, beans and chips etc Mmmmm - I have to think that one through...

Original Update:

As a dedicated athlete, this marathon should be a walk in the park. No blisters. No shin splints. No cramp. No problems with my breathing. No turning a funny colour after a few miles. No being overtaken again by those annoying little turds dressed as an armadillo. Anyway, you get the picture...........

Thought it would be a good idea to run one last marathon before I retire from international athletics. Like my name sake Paula, I've been trying to get rid of my post-birth stomach and have a crack at improving on my last marathon time.

The first marathon (2003) was 5 hours. The second (2004) was 4.5 hours. So this one has got a 4 hour target on it, although I'll probably regress back to over 5 hours!!

Running when I had so many friends sponsor me with their hard earned cash certainly helped to keep me running last time, and so I'm hoping you can help again this time.

Donating to charity through Justgiving is the easiest way to sponsor me:  If you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Or, you can pop  a cheque in the post to my house: The Manse, Llanbethery, Vale of Glamorgan CF62 3AN.

If you can sponsor me, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks

Paul xx
