Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
You probably know that I have unfinished business with the London Marathon, having dropped out three weeks before the race in 2007 owing to thyroid problems. Cancer Research UK has unfinished business as well. I feel very lucky, five years after having been diagnosed with breast cancer, to be alive and running, and, statistically at least, I have a good chance of surviving into old age. Others have not been so lucky, such as our friend Gerry Fitzsimons, a 48 year old life-long non-smoker, whose life was lost to lung cancer in 2007. Lung cancer is still the most common cancer and the biggest killer - median life expectancy at diagnosis is about 6 months (irrespective of stage), and only 5% of patients last more than 2 years.
As you can see from the photo, I had a great time running the London Marathon in 2006, and I was thrilled to have rebuilt my fitness enough to get round in under five hours. This year I will be running partly for myself, and partly to try to improve the prognosis for others like Gerry.
I have been back in training since September and am hoping for a new "personal best" - but I need your help with the second part. Please give generously and help me reach my fundraising target of £10,000 for Cancer Research UK. (We did it in 2006!)
Donating through this web site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Cancer Research UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
And don't forget to leave me a message, because I replayed them all in my head while I was running in 2006, and, believe me, it did make a difference!
Many thanks for your support.
