My story

THANK YOU so much for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

You're here because I have decided to take the plunge and once again take part in a crazy challenge which I am also hoping will be the opportunity of a lifetime! :-)

This time I am going to be travelling to take part in a project with around 30 fundraisers and we will be working to restore a small primary school in Sandberg, South Africa where we hope to change the lives of the 40 children and 2 teachers. Project South Africa gives the local children the chance to continue their education in their own village, close to their families, rather than being obliged to move away. With up to 8 hours of manual labour per day we will repair and paint the inside and outside of the school building, replace the ceiling in one of the classrooms, sand and seal the wooden floors, tile the veranda floor, replace the roof in the school office, repair the plumbing of the toilet block and tile the toilet walls and floors. During the project we also hope to build a new library, football pitch, playground area and sport facilities for the children. I expect that we can have a real impact on their lives but also think it will be really rewarding and quite an emotional journey.

As well as helping a local community all of the money I raise will go towards vital bowel cancer research. The Bobby Moore Fund was established by Stephanie Moore MBE in partnership with Cancer Research UK in 1993 after Bobby Moore, who will always be remembered for captaining England to World Cup glory in 1966, tragically died of bowel cancer aged just 51.

I wasn't that aware of bowel cancer before signing up for this project, but it actually accounts for one in eight new cancer cases in the UK and affects both men and women. It is the second most common cause of cancer death, claiming around 44 lives each day in the UK so I feel that by completeing this challenge I can increase awareness whilst also playing a part in helping raise money for extra research.

So now its over to you....donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.....every penny will be appreciated!

Debbie xx
