This page is in memory of and thanksgiving for the life of Debbie Wood. Debbie loved her family, friends and her job. Over a period of nearly twenty years she taught in five schools in South and West Yorkshire. In 2004 she returned as Headteacher to the school she herself attended as a child, Middleton St. Mary's in Leeds, and led it with distinction. Her warmth and enthusiasm were evident in all that she did and she touched many lives with her kindness and generosity.

She believed in helping others in a practical way. She saw education as key to improving the opportunities of children, particularly those from less well-off backgrounds. Her approach was always down to earth, focused on results and full of good-humour. The same values guide the work of the African Children's Educational Trust, a small, highly-focused charity that provides support to vulnerable African children, enabling them to receive the education that would otherwise be denied to them.

Debbie died on 7th May 2008, aged 41 years. It's hard to understand how her energy and vitality could be gone from this world. Here on this page, from time to time we can give thanks for her life and be comforted that the values and spirit that defined her will be carried on in the work of A-CET.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. A-CET gets your money faster and, if you're a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Thank you for your support.
