Bupa Great South Run 2009 · 25 October 2009 ·

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Well I did it! Despite shockingly poor preparation and a virtually none existant training schedule I managed to get round in 2hrs 21mins 57sec. It was a really great atmosphere and I recommend it to anyone thinking of doing such an event - very well organised. I will be back next year! Thanks again for all your support and donations. Debs

A BIG thenk you to everyone who has donated so far.

FYI - The event will be televised live on Sunday on Channel FIVE from 10.25 til noon. The run starts at 10.40 with the Elite Female runners going first. The section I'm assigned to isn't due to start running until 11.12 and I have no idea when I'll be finished!  Thanks all. Debs

Hello and thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

I'm taking part in the Bupa Great South Run happening later this year in Portsmouth - see www.greatrun.org for details.

The furthest I've ever run in one go is a 6 mile fun-run so running 10 miles in a 21,000 runner event will be a challenge for me. I'm doing it to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Society.

Why your help is so important.
1 in 3 of us over 65 will die with dementia. There is currently no cure. Dementia is caused when the brain is damaged by specific diseases; the most common is Alzheimer's. It is not exclusive to elderly people and memory loss is just one of many symptoms that make dementia such a difficult condition to endure

What your money will do.
Alzheimer's Society is the UK's leading support and research charity for people with dementia and their carers. It runs quality services, funds research, advises professionals and campaigns for improved health and social care. For more info please visit

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Alzheimer's Society gets your money faster and, if you’re a taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid are added to your donation.

Many thanks for your support
