South Tyneside Sunset Stroll · 25 February 2009

The volunteers at Cancer Connections have experienced cancer themselves and help other people through their cancer journey. The aim of Cancer Connections is to help patients and their loved ones and carers, in South Tyneside, to return to normal life and enjoy again their family, work and leisure.

Story

Hi,

My name is Debra, I am 41 years old and live in South Shields.  I was diagnosed with breast cancer on 23rd March 2004.  After having chemotherapy, radiotherapy, numerous operations, reconstructive surgery and discovering I carry the BRCA2 gene I am now  approaching the magic ‘five years’ since my diagnosis.  To celebrate being alive I have decided to plan or take part in at least five activities throughout 2009 to support Cancer Connections, which is a local support group based in South Shields.

I am planning a ‘Silly Shoes’ night on Saturday March 21st at the New Crown, a 6.5 mile ‘Sunset Stroll’ on June 6th from Roker to the Marine Park, taking part in The 10km Great North Woman’s Run in July, and The Great North run in September and finally a charity night in October/November.

I would greatly appreciate ANY help, donations or sponsorship you could offer me for any of these events.

Many thanks

Debra Slesser.
