Story
Thanks for visiting my page. As you may know my Uncle Joe died last year. He died within 9 weeks of being diagnosed with cancer. He was just 48 years old.
As the anniversary of Joe's death fell on the same weekend as my entry in the Skipton Triathlon I thought that raising some funds for a deserving cause would be appropriate in the circumstances.
So on Sunday 19th April I attended Joe's anniversary mass and I then dashed up to the pool to make my start time of 10:57. Those in Joe's position rely on palliative care. I therefore decided to raise funds for the local hospice, Manorlands, who provide care in this area for those such as Joe. I am sure many of you will have known and loved people who have benefited from the care provided by Manorlands and hospices like it. I certainly do.
I have now decided that Triathlon is the ideal sport for me. Not that I am ideally suited for any of the sporting activities, however it is the preserve of the Sports Statto. So if you are interested here's how I did
Swim 400 metres 9:14 then T1 2:32 then Cycle 22km (the extra 2 km uphill diversion at the end due to roadworks didn't help) 53:39 then T2 0:50 then Run 5km 22:25.
Total time 1:28:44 and I'm more than happy with that but more importantly I am delighted that I have raised a further £1185 on top of the funds raised on this 'just giving' page so my total funds raised stands at nearly £2100 but if you missed out before and would like to help this deserving cause in Joe's memory please don't hesitate to add to the pot.
Thanks you to everybody who has sponsored me it is much appreciated by me, my family and Manorlands Hospice.
Please give generously. Thank You. Declan
