Story
As you can see on the left, the Great South Run was a)great fun b)done in dreadful conditions. (You can usually see the Isle of Wight in the background, but the rain from 20 minutes before the start put paid to that - plus the wind and cold...)
But I completed the course in 1hour 37 minutes, which was very pleasing. Nathan and Ashling were there to cheer me on - picking me out from 18,000 others. They’re my greatest fans. Altogether over 70 took part for CAFOD - and the anticipated sponsorship is about £20,000.
This was my first Great South Run, as one of the members of this year’s CAFOD team. It’s a charity I’ve supported in my many years since primary school.
I’ve run the Windsor, Fleet and Bracknell (4 times) half marathons, and have a 'silent' ambition to run the London Marathon one day. But this is one I especially looked forward to – and trained hard for. I ran regularly to maintain general fitness, mainly during lunchtimes at work – Syngenta at Jealott's Hill (so a lovely setting).
The CAFOD support team were very good - both before and on the day. So, many thanks to them. And to you for any support you want to give.
Next year? You bet.
