STOP PRESS!!
Despite teeming rain and that pesky Paula Radcliffe holding me up, I managed to jog around Portsmouth this morning in a time of 1.44.32 which - given my less than perfect training programme - is certainly not as ignominious as I had feared! It was actually a really inspiring day with everyone (19,800) running for excellent causes and quite a few tee shirts that had my eyes watering...Paddington Bear passed me about mile 2 but I overtook him back at 8 miles! Thanks everyone again for their extraordinary generosity & kind words - it's much appreciated! Dx

Believe it or not, it's actually seven years since I limped round the London Marathon for Macmillan who were such a support when PG was ill. You were all just brilliant then!
This time it's another cancer charity - the Royal Marsden in London, a real centre of excellence for treatment and research. It's also where my brother-in-law Nick has been looked after for the last six months. Last week we heard the fantastic news that his lymphoma is now in remission after some really gruelling chemo. A relief & blessing all round!
So, I thought: great! Don't have to run any more (I'm a bit unfit to tell the truth - too much vicarious rowing and not enough of the real thing...)
But then I realised: all the more reason to raise a few squids so that the Marsden can go on looking after people like Nick, getting them better and finding out as much as we can so that cancer becomes increasingly less scary for the next generation.
I do know it's an incredibly cheeky time to be asking for money, so please don't feel under any pressure - just wish me good luck next Sunday morning! If you have even a few squids to donate, every penny will certainly help!
