Defibrillator Fundraising Campaign In Memory of Mark Jackson
Maddy is partnering with AEDdonate to raise funds for one external defibrillator in memory of her grandad, Mark Jackson. This life-saving device will be accessible to anyone in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), helping to save more lives.
Please see a heart-warming message from Maddy explaining her story for the fundraising campaign:
Sadly, my grandad (Mark Jackson) passed away recently. We do not yet know the cause, but his heart stopped and we were in urgent need of a defibrillator while waiting for the paramedics to arrive. Unfortunately, there was no defibrillator available in the Fairway where my grandad lived, and having one nearby could have helped save his life. In his memory, we are trying to raise money to have a defibrillator fitted locally, as it could help save other people’s lives in the future. We will be walking around Dove Stones Reservoir in memory of my grandad, and any donations—cash or transfer—would be hugely appreciated. There will also be a charity donation box at my grandad’s funeral (details to be confirmed), as the funeral directors plan to donate to a cause like this. All money raised will go towards applying for and fitting a defibrillator, or directly to a defibrillator charity in my grandad’s name.
Why Placing a Defibrillator in the Community is So Important
Each year in the UK, over 30,000 people suffer a Sudden Cardiac Arrest outside of a hospital. Tragically, 620 of these are under the age of 35, and 270 are children, often while at school, in public places, or at events.
Having a defibrillator on-site, ready to use within the first 3 minutes of an SCA, can increase survival chances to over 80%.
How a Defibrillator Will Help the community
Once installed, the defibrillator will be registered with the local ambulance trust and available for 24/7 public use.
This doesn’t replace emergency services. Instead, it provides immediate, potentially life-saving intervention while the ambulance is enroute. The quicker the shock is delivered, the greater the chance of survival.
