Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my page, dedicated to the memory of my daddy, James (Seamus) O'Neill, who passed away on 7 July 2012 at NI Hospice, Somerton Road, Belfast, after a short battle with lung cancer.
He was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung cancer in April 2012. He had already gone through months of hell as he had presented with symptoms almost a year before. It seemed like a fight to reach this diagnosis as we watched him become more ill and suffer more and more pain. Unfortunately the pain did not end there and he continued to suffer for 3 months.
He deteriorated on 6 July 2012 and was admitted to the NI Hospice, where ironically he had worked as a volunteer in the coffee shop until he became ill. His pain was managed as soon as he arrived. The hospice staff sat us down and explained clearly everything that had been happening in a way noone ever saw fit to before. It felt like someone was looking after and caring for daddy and us at last.
He passed away shortly after 2am on 7 July 2012. His death was peaceful, pain free and dignified.
We are so indebted to the hospice for how they cared for daddy and us in those few hours. Daddy was such a supporter of the hospice too so it is only fitting that we try to help them in any way we can.
Please give what you can. We are so so grateful and your gift will make a difference to families like ours.
