Obstetric Fistula is an injury that occurs in childbirth and is typically caused by several days of obstructed labour without access to specialist medical care, such as a caesarean section.  The consequences of fistula are life shattering: the baby often dies and the woman is left with chronic incontinence. Unable to control the flow of urine she may be abandoned by her husband and family. It often occurs among poor girls and women who live far from medical services and affects 2 million women globally with 100,000 new cases annually.

Fistula is treatable but most woman living with the condition are either unaware that treatment is available or cannot afford it at the local hospitals....but free surgeries are available through the Freedom From Fistula Foundation, based in Scotland (charity No SCO39493).

Reconstructive surgery can mend the injury at an average cost of £200 including surgery, post operative care and rehabilitation support.

In partnership with the Freedom from Fistula Foundation who are matching our fundraising effort we would like to raise enough money to treat 75 women in Malawi. Your support would help restore health, hope and dignity to these women living with this devastating condition.

To mark a momentous moment in Scottish athletics we are appealing to you to give generously to support Denis and Sandy’s Marathon effort to run the 26 plus miles along Loch Ness to celebrate Denis’s 60 Birthday!
