I am running 10k in Sunderland in June for Neuroacanthocytosis.
Neuroacanthocytosis is an extremely rare genetic movement disorder, which stems from the same part of the brain as Alzheimer's, Huntington's and Parkinson's diseases. Research into the spiky red cells blood cells present in NA may provide clues that lead to an understanding of all of these brain diseases, however due to its rarity drug companies have no interest in funding research (there is no profit in developing drugs for less than 500 cases worldwide!). I have been working with Denise (a sufferer of NA) for the last few years, and am trying to raise awareness and funds to help others and their families who have also been affected by this disease.
