Human Relief Foundation (HRF) is currently working on the 'Path of Mercy' project, to help aid the most vulnerable refugees camped out in primitive conditions, fleeing war and significant atrocities in their home country. HRF has a dedicated team who are now working within what is known as the ‘Jungle’ in Calais, France, to aid refugees/migrants and give advice to those who are arriving to distribute aid. In the ‘Jungle’, there is an estimate of over 3,000 inhabitants.
Many have travelled via the Mediterranean route in overcrowded boats at the mercy of smugglers and traffickers. All the refugees have no access to funds or housing, this is why they reside in the camp. Most of the refugees in the camp are highly vulnerable people. Due to the conflict, many people have faced and continue to face injury, disability, torture, starvation, neglect and poor mental health.
• There are over 3000 poor, cold and hungry people in ‘The Jungle’
• 3 hour queue for 1 meal per day
• 2 hour queue for a six minute shower
• 6 hour queue to see a doctor and receive one pill
• Many people without shoes or socks
• No security or protection
• 1 portable toilet per 150 persons
• Local charities struggling to meet the camp needs
• Increasing number of Syrians arriving in the camp
• Largest groups are from Sudan, Eritrea, Afghanistan and Egypt
HRF is hoping to deliver essential necessities such as food, drink, toiletries and camp supplies directly to those most in need.
