WHY RAISE MONEY FOR THE RSPCA - DERBY

I am raising money for Derby RSPCA as they are independently financed and are in desperate need of support. I don’t know if you've heard on the news but they will not be homing dogs at the city centre branch from august and  the dogs will be transferred to nearby RSPCA centres instead. This is medium term due to lack of funds to continue with the dogs upkeep, as they need to refurbish the kennels for which they need to the raise significant finance for. It's a real shame as due to the centres location they have a really successfully rate of re-homing dogs. They are having to make the 12 staff there redundant and cut back to 4 to cut running costs with the aim to eventually raise enough money to get dogs back to the centre for re-homing.

WHAT I AM DOING: Support me in my hour on the plinth

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the new arts project by Anthony Gormley, ‘One and Other’,  it takes place over 100 days and every hour a different person will be selected to stand on the empty 4 plinth in Trafalgar Square.I entered my dog Brad who is known as ‘the dog of bronze’ as I felt it would be fitting that he was entered for the opportunity to represent Britain as a nation of dog lovers. In the first draw on the 7th June, Brad was one of the first to be selected out of the total 2400 who will take part.

But it turns out that it’s against ‘policy’ for animals to take part in the project, so the place has now been transferred to me. BBC Radio Derby recently held a listeners vote as to what she should do and it was decided that I should dress up as Brad and continue to represent Britain as a nation of dog lovers and use this as an opportunity to raise awareness for the local RSPCA.

Limited numbers of participants are being selected from each area of the country meaning that I will be one of the lucky few from the East Midlands to take part.

I will be on the plinth in the early hours, 1-2am in the morning on Saturday 25 July - thats late Friday night at which time you can choose to watch me impersonating Brad live at www.oneandother.co.uk. The project is broadcast live 24 hours a day and will also be covered on Sky Arts. A full-length documentary is also planned to sum up the event, from the first application to the final hour.
