Story
Hi there
Derek and I each completed our Half Marathon distance in the Cheltenham Circular Challenge – walking 26.2 miles between us on Sunday 22 June.
Derek set off on his first 6.5 miles from Cheltenham Racecourse to Barlands at 7.15am, joined by Tabitha Scrivener our Treasurer as his guide dog. Mr Simpson met up with Derek at Barlands to walk the next section of 6.5 miles to Brizen Fields in Up Hatherley. They walked with Dexter (Mr S’s doggy friend) and Pam Brookes, the dogs must have walked about 10 miles to and fro'. Derek finished his Half Marathon at 1.15pm.
I set off at Brizen with my sisters Vicki and Yve at 8.15am. We got through alot of topics of conversation and lots of bottled water during our 6.1 mile walk together. They decided to call it a day at The Pheasant Inn on the old Gloucester Road (end of section 3) and I continued on the last section as Billy No Mates. My right knee was giving me jip and slowed me up rather but I hobbled back into the Racecourse 7.25 miles later at 1.45pm. I'd never walked so far all in one go so I'm dead chuffed with my Half Marathon distance of 13.35 miles, achieved in 5 and a half hours with a slightly duff right knee!
Now to the important stuff - Derek as Head of Fundraising and me as Fundraiser for the Cheltenham area are committed to raising sponsorship for the Cobalt Breast Clinic £1m Appeal through the Circular Challenge. Please dig deep and give us plenty of financial encouragement. It will make the memory of the hills and the dodgy knee all the more bearable!
