Borneo Orangutan Survival UK forms part of The Orangutan Protection Foundation working in tandem (www.opf.org) to protect the orangutan and its rainforest home.

Story

Welcome. While working as a volunteer for BOS in Borneo, I met an infant orangutan called Tian Tian. WIth your help, one day she may live free.

BOS rescues orangutans from appaling abuse. Their forest home is razed by loggers, often to grow palm oil. Mothers are often slaughtered. The young stolen as pets or sold illegally.

A baby orangutan normally clings to its mother for seven years. And that mother teachers her everything. How to climb, make a nest, find water, what to eat, and what not to eat. When mothers are killed, BOS takes on this role. Dedicated carers teach the baby orangutans how to live free. One day, if all goes well, they can be released to again live wild and free on land bought and protected by BOS.

Releasing an orangutan back into the wild costs about £1,000. Thanks so much for your kindness.
