Derek Lee - Running for MIND

Thank you for taking the time to visit my page.
Why MIND?
I have spent the majority of my career in the NHS as a Clinical Psychologist working with people suffering from and affected by a wide range of mental health problems. I have seen how the ability of statutory services to meet their needs has become increasingly compromised in these times of austerity, despite promises to increase funding.
Organisations like MIND play a vital role in augmenting the statutory services, in being able to offer help and support to those who are not able to access other services, and in promoting positive images and messages about mental health problems. Even in these enlightened times, stigma can attach itself like a shadow to those with mental health problems.
Why a Marathon?
I have been inspired by family members and friends who have run Marathons. I mean, how difficult can it be? One foot in front of the other for 26.2 miles. I estimate that to be about 51,500 steps. It has become a personal challenge. I am mostly retired, so there is time on my hands. And my feet.
I hope you feel inspired to make a donation to MIND, my chosen charity. Every pound is a step towards to my target.
Thank you.
Derek
