Hi,
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I am running the Belfast Marathon on Monday 3rd may 2010 to raise funds for the Welsh Guards Afghanistan Appeal in memory of my very dear friend Lt Colonel Rupert Thorneloe MBE, 1st Battalion Welsh Guards who was killed in action in Helmand Province on 1st July 2009.
Rupert is survived by his wife and two young children. It is my privilege to be godfather to the eldest, Hannah.
The money raised will go to soldiers wounded on operations and also the families and dependents of those killed in action. Please have a look at their website to get more of an idea of where the money will go http://www.welshguardsappeal.com/
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now to this extremely worthy cause. Thank you in advance.
In the rising of the sun
and in its going down
We remember him
In the blowing of the wind
and in the chill of winter
We remember him
In the opening of buds
and in the warmth of summer
we remember him
In the rustling of leaves
and in the beauty of the autumn
We remember him
In the beginning of the year
and when it ends
We remember him.
Kind regards
Derek
I have just about recovered from my exertions on Monday 3rd May. I did not manage to break my target of under 4 hours due to excruciating cramp at the 23 mile mark forcing me to hobble in; however the pain was worth it for this cause which means so much to me. The donations continue to come in and I am continually humbled and overwhelmed by the generosity of those who have donated. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
On 25th October I completed the Dublin marathon in memory of my very dear friend Rupert and in support of the Welash Guards Afghanistan Appeal. Further donations will be greatly received so please support this very worthy cause.
Kind Regards
Derek
