My story

On the 16th to the 27th September 2009 I Derek Skinner will be following in the footsteps of an inspiring man Simon Milward (1965-2005) and climbing, scrambling 5,895m up Kilimanjaro. I will be doing this for: 1: To test myself as a person 2: In the memory of Simon 3: To raise as much money as possible for a small charity called motorcycle outreach. Motorcycle Outreach (MOR) is a registered charity which works to provide transport for effective healthcare delivery in remote areas of developing countries. Effective healthcare in rural areas depends on transport. Vehicles used for this purpose need to be systematically maintained and managed. Motorcycle outreach supports an established project, Health for all (HIA) on the island of Flores in Indonesia. HIA provides primary healthcare transport for a catchment area of over fifty thousand people living in remote villages. Motorcycle outreach has grown from the vision of the late Simon Milward, a global humanitarian motorcyclist from Exeter and the uk who championed effective healthcare delivery by motorcycle. Sadly Simon lost his life in Mali 2005 towards the end of a five year round the world motorcycle ride to promote and visit these regions but to carry on his work will take money, time and effort (5,895m of it). I know in this credit crunch era money is tight but we still enjoy primary health care in the western world compared to families in the poorest regions so anything you can give will be welcome. Please take a look at www.motorcycleoutreach.org for more info on the charity and events that are coming up. Also my Facebook page to learn a bit more about me and my habits.
