Jesuit Missions is the international development and mission office of the Jesuits in Britain. For over 50 years it has supported vulnerable communities in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

Story

Dear All,

I will be running the London Marathon for Jesuit Missions, dressed as a Womble.  Below is a brief outline of where money that I raise will go.  Please give generously.

The projects that the money I raise will go to are: Loyola High School, Dar es Salaam and St Ignatius Pre and Primary School, Dodoma, Tanzania. Last year I spent 10 months working with the Jesuits in Tanzania and am hoping to raise as much money for the two schools there as possible. Money you donate will go towards a scholarship that will help get the poorest children an education.

St Ignatius, Dodoma, the school at which I taught, has only been open for four years and has a scholarship programme designed to get children from the poorest areas a decent education, a healthy lunch and transport to and from school.  Loyola High School has been open just over ten years and has quickly become one of the top schools in Tanzania. It is in the Mabibo district of Dar es Salaam, a poor area (there isn’t a paved road to the school) with over 50% of the pupils requiring financial assistance to attend. Money raised will go towards the purchase of books, equipment and computers to help the 1050 students.

The Jesuit Missions is a charity which is looking to raise £40 000 this year for various other projects including the Makumbi Orphanage in Zimbabwe, St Martin’s Secondary School in Soweto, South Africa and better library resources in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo.

Thanks for your help and support.
