Story

*** Updates at the end, have a look!!

OK, here we go on the most unusual charity donation you are going to make this year!  We are all serving personnel with Burma Company, The 1st Battalion, The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment serving in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.  One of our attached personnel, Warrant Officer Gareth Davies from the RAF, is arranging a 10k Charity Foot Race sometime in June to raise funds for the Royal British Legion.  Nothing too unusual about that we hear you say - WELL READ ON!

The run will take place in and around an old derelict construction site that we are calling home for 6 months while we’re in Afghanistan. It’s not that big so we will have to do a number laps to cover the 10km distance - reaching for your wallets yet? No? So you need more. The route is made up of gravel, old mucky tracks and uneven ploughed fields in temperatures that could get as high as 40 degrees! But the bit that should get you all rushing to donate is that the route is within a Patrol Base, right on the front line - now that has to be well worth your biggest donation this year!

Operations do take priority of course, so with this in mind the date may well change at short notice. That said, as many people as possible will be giving up their precious down time to enjoy a challenge away from operations. We want to do our best for those less fortunate than ourselves, even when we are away from home.

The run will be made even more special as we are inviting our Afghan National Police partners and locally employed Afghan nationals to take part which will bring an international flavour to the event.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate. We raise more while saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now

Thank you all for donating, the guys will all be earning your valuable contributions.  Remember to leave a message for us when you make your donation.  It does not matter if its funny or personal but it realy does lift our spirits out here.  Remember to check the site quite often too as we plan on updating it from time to time and we'll put some photos and a message on after the run itself.
