THE DIABETES UK TARGET AMOUNT WILL NOW REDUCE IN LINE WITH ANY DONATIONS MADE TO OUR NEWER NOMINATED CHARITY, JDRF.

OFFLINE DONATIONS ARE ONLY INCLUDED ONCE PAID INTO THE FUNDRAISING ACCOUNT.

Claire's full Marathon training began on 4th December.  Fortunately, the toe injury suffered during the Social Evening activity healed sufficiently to enable Claire to start to the planned schedule.  She is now training in earnest, 6 days a week.

Please continue to support Claire in her valiant efforts.

INFO BELOW HERE IS FROM PRIOR TO NEW BLOG SITE (SEE ABOVE).

May we give Dad and Fran a huge thank you for requesting family to donate to this cause rather than buy Christmas presents for them.  We've donated online (see below) and others have sent cheques contributing to the offline total.

SANTA IN DIABETES UK RUNNING VEST CHRISTMAS CAKE

The draw for the Christmas Cake was made on 16th December!!  The winning ticket was 682.  Congratulations to Julie Lawrence of Northampton on winning this lovely cake.  Thanks again to both Mum and Jan for making the cake and providing it for fund raising - a further £150 raised !!!

CHARITY SOCIAL EVENING - SATURDAY 25TH NOVEMBER 2006

SOLD OUT AND WAS A GREAT SUCCESS!!

THANKS TO EVERYONE INVOLVED, AND CONGRATULATIONS TO CLAIRE ON ARRANGING A VERY SUCCESSFUL EVENING.

The band Aide-n-Abett were tremendous, coming on for two stints and leaving to rapturous applause.  They proved a very popular choice and our sincere thanks to them all for giving up their time to support this cause.

Kate Fisher led some dancing with the children, many of them joining in and showing off their skills, and leading some Salsa/Jive with the adults - thank you once again Kate for your help.  Thanks also to Ruth & Gav for selling raffle tickets on the night.

The raffle raised approximately £300, with total funds for the night (less expenses) contributing a further £1300 to the amount raised - updated as ticket sales were made over the last few weeks.

Many of the raffle prizes were donated by local businesses and we again extend our thanks to them - all previously mentioned on this site.

Claire makes Page 3 !!!

Daventry Express printed an article about Claire and the fundraising efforts along with a photograph of her and the kids on page 3 (on 12 October).

Claire ran the Great Eastern Run (Half Marathon) in Peterborough on Sunday 15 October.  Despite an injury and being on strong antibiotics she completed the course in a superb time of 1 hr 50 mins, just 2 minutes shy of her personal best!  Claire was not feeling great from mile 3, having gone off at a tremendous speed, in keeping with the rest of the athletes, but managed to persist and put in a very determined effort.  If this is how she can run when she's not at her best then Paula Radcliffe watch out!!!

THE CHALLENGE

Claire's ultimate aim for this fundraising period is to run and complete the London Marathon in April 2007.  In the meantime she is organising various other events in order to raise her target of £5000 for Diabetes UK.  Admittedly an ambitious amount, and more than required to meet the guaranteed place she has been given by the charity, but she's always up for a challenge!

WHY DIABETES UK?

June 2004 and Claire began running for fitness and enjoyment (barking!) while mulling over the thought of raising money for a charity - but which one should it be?  On 5th September 2004 the choice was taken out of her hands as our son Charlie, just turned 5 years old at the time, was diagnosed with Type 1 (Insulin dependent) Diabetes - for which there is no known cause or cure.  Our world fell apart, while Charlie was confined to hospital until we were able to inject him.  3 days after diagnosis, and following much upset in which Charlie resisted our efforts to inject with immense strength, and we were all on the way home again - our lives, and particularly Charlie's, changed forever.

Diabetes UK is the leading charity for this life-threatening illness and contributes significant amounts to research into the quest for a cure.

PLANNED EVENTS:

15 April 2007 - Leamington Regency Run (10km).

22 April 2007 - the ultimate aim - London Marathon.

COMPLETED RUNNING EVENTS:

10 September 2006 ran the Lake Vyrnwy Half Marathon

15 October 2006 ran the Great Eastern Run (Half Marathon), Peterborough

OTHER COMPLETED FUNDRAISING EVENTS:

16 Dec 2006 - Santa Christmas Cake raffled

25 Nov 2006 - Social Evening with Live Band and Dancing.

Please also view the website of our new charity Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.  These specialise in research for Type 1 diabetes - the type Charlie has.  We will be making a donation to them from the amount raised offline.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Diabetes UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.  Please dig deep and sponsor me online.

So please sponsor me now!  Remember, if you prefer to sponsor in the usual way -writing on our sponsor form - then please contact us.

Many thanks for your support.
