As a lot of you will know my daughter Harriet was born in December 2007 and contracted pneumococcal meningitis in early January 2008. She was admitted to Great Ormond Street Hospital where she spent two weeks in intensive care, a further week on the ward and another week thereafter in the local hospital. Harriet remained unconscious for the first week in Great Ormond Street and encountered a number of complications immediately after.
Vanessa and I consider ourselves very fortunate that Harriet continues her recovery with a great deal of support from family, friends and a number of medical specialists.
We have decided to support Meningitis Trust, who continue to raise the awareness of meningitis, it's effects and to provide ongoing support to those affected and their families.
Harriet's Godfather, Richard Aston, and I are taking part in the Coyote Rally 2009 to raise funds for this vital charity. The rally will see us travel from Calais to Paris to Munich to Prague and Amsterdam in a car worth no more than £500. The rally will take place from the 5th to the 8th April. For further information please see www.coyote-rally.co.uk
Our team name is "Diamond Lights", named after the single released by Glenn Hoddle and Chris Waddle at the height of their football-playing fame in the late 80s. We will be setting up a "Diamond Lights" web page where we hope to have some pictures with Chris Waddle (who we are meeting in the new year), together with pictures of the car and two lads attempting to look like 80s footballers. Details of this web page will be forwarded in due course.
Richard and I will be purchasing the car and donating the funds from it's sale after the event. We are very grateful to a number of people/organisations that have also contributed hugely to making our entrance into the event possible. Firstly, Bernhard's Sports Surfaces of Rugby who have agreed to pay our petrol for the entire trip, National Farmers Union who have agreed to insure the car free of charge and Tim Masser at Thumbprint in Cirencester who has offered to produce all of the logos for the car for free.
With all that said, thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Meningitis Trust gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor me now!
Additionally, if you think that any of your friends, family or colleagues would like to offer their support, please feel free to forward the link to this page.
Thank you.
