Story

Hello and thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As most of you know I am a photographer for the Dewsbury Reporter and have worked there for the past 18 years.

I am taking part in a sponsored swim to raise money for Bowel Cancer UK. The swim will take me between 14-15 weeks, swimming at least 75 lengths a week.  At the end of the swim I will have covered over 1073 lengths (22 miles) of Dewsbury swimming pool which is the same distance as crossing the English Channel.

I have chosen Bowel Cancer uk as my charity to raise awareness and money.

My lovely dad Robert was diagnosed with bowel cancer in October 2009. He went through five weeks of chemotherapy and radiotheropy at Leeds Hospital.  In January he had a major operation to remove the cancer from his bowel at Dewsbury Hospital. He is now back home recovering being looked after by my mum Sheila.  For the last few months my family have gone through so much together, it's so upsetting for everyone.  We are so thankful to the nurses and surgeons who have helped give my dad extra life.  This is my story, we are just one of the families affected by cancer.
