Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Four friends and I are taking on the challenge of walking the Coast to Coast. This classic route was originated and described by the celebrated A. Wainwright. The route is 190 miles long, which works out at about 14.5 miles per day. I thought I would take this opportunity of trying to raise money and awareness for a registered charity very close to mine and my family's heart, called NSPKU. My 2 year old grandson Joe, was diagnosed at birth with a rare genetic disorder called Phenylketonuria, a faulty enzyme in his liver is unable to metabolize protein correctly. Joe is a lively, bright, typical 2 year old who we all adore. If his condition is not managed correctly, Joe would have seizures and become irreversibly brain damaged. There is currently no cure and the only way to manage Joe's condition is through a strictly controlled low protein diet. The NSPKU is a crucial support to families affected by this condition and are also active in lobbying for research into a cure for this rare disorder, of which only one in ten thousand babies are born with each year in the UK. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The National Society for Phenylketonuria (UK) Ltd. will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Many thanks for your support.
