Asha - the nepalise word for hope!
Myself and James are going to drive a rickshaw from Goa in the south west of India up into Nepal to a place called Pokhara. Our goal is to get there in about thirteen days so we have our work cut out for us! if you dont know, a rickshaw is effectively a 7bhp moped with three wheels and a roof capable of speeds of about 55kmph on a good day. This may sound like a bit of a holiday but it really is not as we will not have any support and it will be up to us to reach Pokhara with the rickshaww in hopefully one piece.. eek! We are doing this to raise money for Asha Nepal.
Asha Nepal, formerly known as Maiti Nepal are a small charity run on a totally voluntary basis in the UK by a small team of trustees with a deep personal commitment to transforming the lives of exploited, abused and endangered women and children in Nepal. They have an office in Kathmandu with a small team of paid local staff who coordinate our projects in Nepal.
The charity works with women and girls in Nepal who have suffered from the worst social evils - trafficking into the sex trade, physical and sexual abuse, gender and caste discrimination. They support projects that give these women and children security and hope for the future.
