Story
I did it! I completed the London Marathon in 5 hours, 15 minutes and 5 seconds.
On May 9 2005, my Mum, Jen Newman died after a brave 19 month battle against ovarian cancer. She was diagnosed with the ‘Silent Killer’ in October 2003, she fought through a hysterectomy and three different courses of chemotherapy before the disease spread, in the form of cancerous cells, to her stomach. It breaks my heart that she has not been here to see my children being born, meet my amazing step-son and see me marry the woman of my dreams.
Signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer are frequently absent early on and when they exist they may be subtle. This is why it is known as the ‘silent killer’ as in most cases, the symptoms persist for several months before being recognized and diagnosed, usually too late to treat successfully.
I wanted to do something that would make her proud, so that it why I ran the London Marathon 2013 for Ovacome, a support network designed for women with ovarian cancer, their families, friends and healthcare professionals.
If you can donate in any way. Myself, Ovacome and the people that so badly need support would appreciate it so much.
