So, there I am just before Xmas chatting to my mate Lee London on Facebook when he mentions he cant drink when we meet up in 2009 as he's training for the London Marathon. I'd never thought about it really, I'm not a runner, never have been, in fact 4 years ago I was diagnosed with an incurable Rheumatic Dis-ease that left me finding it difficult to stand or even walk. But I'd given up all toxins in my system 8 months ago in Ibiza (no alcohol, drugs, meat, wheat , dairy, sugar & caffeine, although to work my late night DJ gigs I do have to have a little caffeine when needed), consequently I'd calmed right down, banished all negative thoughts from my mind, no anger or resentmet, feeling only positivity and joy, and the next thing you know, bang, no dis-ease, amazing! I'd started on alcohol when I was 14 and other things when I was 18, that's 24 years total of abusing my system, but thankfully the body is an amazingly resilient machine, and its given me another chance to get it right. So for the first time in my life I thought, hang on a minute, I might just be able to do this, 26 miles? OK bring it on! ! Having decided that I was up for it I chatted to my hairdresser and her husband, who are both avid runners, and the whole idea took shape in my mind. I stuck my application form in the post and did my first run on Xmas Day round Clapham Common. Oh yeah? I got back to my front door and checked my distance, 1 mile, 1 fucking mile!! And I was shattered, hands on knees, totally out of breath, the works! What have I decided to do here I thought to myself? Too late now, no backing out, the form's already in the post. Anyway, last 4 weeks I've just kept on pushing it a little bit more, first 3, then 5, then 6, then 8, then 10 miles! Last Sunday, 10 miles, in under 2 hours! I think the secret is when you find your pace (mine is just over 5 miles an hour at the moment) just stick to it and let your body just do it, its mind over matter for sure! So this Sunday I'm going for 13 miles total, that's half marathon distance. Once I know I can do that I'm going to start working on my speed a little bit more, so watch this space. I was running one of my longer runs in Thailand when the sponsorship idea came to me, its time to put some positive vibes out there in the World, and I cant think of anything better than I want to raise £1,000,000 for Chartiy (see the elfyer), its only 100,000 people @ £10 each, I'm sure we can achieve that. If its something you believe in anything is possible. If you want to support a different charity that's cool too, just make the donation in my name and let me know its done somehow, so I can keep a tab on the progress. Onwards and Upwards Mark
