Story
Here we go again....Last year I was part of a team that cycled from London to Paris, covering 180 miles and raising £15,000 for The Children's Hospital..! Thanks if you supported us...
This year we are riding from Paris to Lyon - a distance of 280 miles - over 4 days! All of the money that I raise will be going towards a state of the art DXA bone scanner (£120,000 total cost) for the Hospital's world class bone team......read on for more details:
The DXA scanner is vital for the diagnosis of bone disease. After diagnosis the scanner enables very effective monitoring of treatment. This can have a dramatic effect - a child can go from being wheelchair bound and needing to be wrapped in cotton wool (the equivalent fall to jumping off a chair could break their legs) to running around and bashing into things safely... like a child should be able to!
The scanner will be used 75% of time by Professor Nick Bishop for Bone Disease studies, the rest of the time it will assist the treatment of Oncology & Crohns patients and also the treatment of patients with anorexia.
Nick Bishop is at the forefront of Brittle Bone research in the country. His research has enabled him to offer great treatment to patients that is not available anywhere else. The exclusive treatment offered at SCH draws patients in from all over the country and Europe (The team recently treated a little boy from Greece).
Thanks in advance for your support, you lovely person!!
