Story

What the hell are you doing now?

In 2010 The Dobster is going to be doing some running. Well actually, quite a lot of running, and I'm going to be raising some money along the way for the RNLI.

As part of my 2010 Year of Mentalness I shall be running the following and you can keep up to date with my blisters and leaden legs on my blog - It's a Dobster's Life:

28 February - The Beast (5miles over horse jumps!) - COMPLETED AND SURVIVED!!
      14 March - Kilomathon (26.2km) - COMPLETED AND SURVIVED!!
23 May - Edinburgh Marathon (26.2miles) - COMPLETED AND SURVIVED!!
26 September - Run to the Beat Half Marathon (in sub-2 hours) - NEW CHALLENGE!!

What do you want me to do?

Well that's the easy bit - gimme your dosh! But I am well aware that everyone is a bit strapped at the moment, so I'm going to make it easier for you and give you some options. See, aren't I nice?

1. Don't buy me a xmas or a birthday pressie. Yes that's right, I'm giving up pressies. Donate here instead and make sure you let me know in the message that's its my pressie. Otherwise I will be ringing you up to find out where my new telly is.

2. Pass it on. I only know you. But you know loads of other people. Some of whom may even know other people that you don't know. And they will know some people who haven't even heard of you. Or me. But they might be interested in giving to the RNLI. See my point?

3. Sponsor my blisters. If you do this you'll even get a lovely photo of each and every one as proof of their existence. I might even draw smiley faces on them. In fact I have one called Jim, he's lovely.

Any more ideas? I'd appreciate some of them (as long as they don't involve baths, beans or more running).

Why RNLI?

As a child I grew up by the sea and saw the amazing work the lifeboat men and women did. When I grew up (if you can call me a grownup), I got into diving, which makes the RNLI quite an important service for me and my diving buddies. I've seen them at work, getting into dangerous situations to help people stranded on sandbanks, stuck on cliffs and capsized in boats. And it's all done with public donations from people like you and me - not from the government.

The RNLI is the charity that provides a 24-hour lifesaving service around the UK and Republic of Ireland. Volunteer crew members readily exchange leisure, comfort and sleep for cold, wet and fatigue. Their lifesaving work is essential, often difficult and sometimes dangerous.

How?

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now. My feet will appreciate it, and so will you next time you take a ferry or go on a pleasure cruise around the Isle of Wight.

Love you all

Dobs
