Richard Dobson's 31st Birthday Gaming Marathon · 19 December 2020

Place2Be is a children's mental health charity that works to improve the emotional wellbeing of children and young people. We help them to cope with wide-ranging and often complex social issues including bullying, bereavement, domestic violence, family breakdown, neglect and trauma.

Story

Hi there, thanks for clicking on my fundraising page!

My name is Richard Dobson. Back in 2014 I completed a 25-hour gaming marathon that coincided with my 25th birthday. I chose Place2Be as my charity because of the work they do with schools and children's mental health. In the process, I managed to raise £1000 but also awareness of mental health in children.

With the world the way it is in 2020, it felt like the right time to raise awareness again, and hopefully some more money for Place2Be. That's where you come in!

This time around though, as it is my 31st birthday, I am aiming for longer. 31-hours, 31-minutes and 31-seconds to be precise. I will be starting at 12pm midday on Saturday 19th December and gaming straight through until 7:31:31pm on Sunday 20th December.

You can tune in using the Twitch player above or join in the fun at www.twitch.tv/dobo1912knight.

But I also appreciate the pandemic is affecting literally every person. So if you are able to donate, you have my true gratitude. But if you are unable, a share of the page still does the world of good! Or a message of support during the marathon goes a long, long way too.

About Place2Be:

  • 1 in 8 children today have a diagnosable mental health problem.
  • 50% of people with lifetime mental health problems first experience symptoms by the age 14.
  • Rates of depression and anxiety among teenagers have increased by 70% in the past 25 years.

This is why Place2Be's work in schools throughout the UK is so important. I'm supporting mental health because it's a cause that means a lot to me. I would be so grateful for any support you're able to give - together we can make a real and positive difference to children's mental health.
