Story
On the 20th February 2012 our Dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer. He bravely fought at every stage, never once giving up; battling through the Chemo, its side effects and the inevitable spread of the disease. On the 22nd December, he was taken from us and was freed from the pain he had endured for those 10 months.
In his honour and his memory we are both running the London Marathon to raise as much money as we can for the Roy Castle Foundation - the only cancer charity that is wholly dedicated to the defeat of Lung Cancer and research into its prevention and early diagnosis.
Every 15 minutes somebody dies from lung cancer in the UK. Lung cancer is the most common cancer in the world, and in the UK around 41,500 new cases are diagnosed each year. Tragically only 30% of those diagnosed survive more than a year and only 8% up to five years. Whilst smokers and ex-smokers are more at risk, people who have never even lit a cigarette are still at risk. Roy castle himself was never a smoker. This is why it is so important that we help this much-needed charity.
Like so many affected by this disease, our father loved life. He loved his wife, his five children and his eight grandchildren even more. And we loved him dearly.
We’re Doing it for Dad, so please join us to raise all that we can to help the Roy Castle Foundation stop more loved ones being taken from their families.
Thank you in advance for your generosity and we will keep you posted on all our training and fund-raising activities.
