Door Step School provides education and support to the children of slum dwellers, construction site workers and pavement dwellers in Mumbai and Pune. I spent three months as a volunteer with the school from Oct 06 - Jan 07 and have seen at first hand the brilliant work that they do.  The basic concept is that many children are unable to register at school - either there is not one near, they need to look after younger siblings or their parents are migrant workers. Door Step School literally takes the classroom to the kids and sets up class in buses, in tin huts on building sites or in buildings loaned for the purpose by supporters. All the teachers and kids are really inspirational. Admin costs are low and so even quite small donations can go a long way.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to get the funds to the school: Asha for Education will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. We are working with Asha as an 'umbrella' organisation as they have the necessary structure in the UK to accept donations and process them in a tax-efficient way for all. It keeps admin costs down for the school.  All donations here will be flagged for Doorstep School and Asha make the payment directly to the school.
