Accenture Kilimanjaro Trek 2 · 10 September 2009 ·

VSO is an international development organisation that brings people together to share skills, build capabilities, and change lives to make the world a fairer place for all. Everyday, VSO volunteers are working to empower people living in some of the world’s most marginalised communities.

Story

Thank you for visiting my Kilimanjaro Trek Fundraising Page!  I am above my half way point for raising 3500 GDPs ($5,400)!

What is this Mount Kilimanjaro Challenge?
My teammates and I have decided to participate in our company's annual Mount Kilimanjaro Challenge in partnership with Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO).  We will be joining 30 other Accenture employees from across the globe to climb the highest free-standing mountain in the world (wow!) on September 10, 2009!

My Goal and Motivation
I've wanted to contribute to a development organization that creates positive change in some of our world's poorest countries for a very long time.  I struggled between leaving my family and friends - the luxuries of DC and my job and also having a strong desire to travel and help where I could.

I genuinely believe sending skilled volunteers to enable and educate people in areas of the world that need support is the best aid that can be provided. VSO is the largest independent volunteer charity in the world and they concentrate in these 6 specific areas (1) HIV and AIDS (2) disability (3) participation and governance (4) secure livelihoods (5) education and (6) health and well-being.

What you can do to help out!
Sending volunteers all over the world is no easy task, and costs money!  Here is a couple of examples of what your money would go towards:

$80 raised provides HIV and AIDS training for a VSO volunteer to raise awareness of HIV and AIDS

$400 raised helps a VSO volunteer to train 20 local teachers

$1600 raised helps to fund a community projects in the

I am aiming to hit $5,500 in the next month in order to contribute to VSOs amazing work.  Please visit VSO's website
