Highland Cross is a 50 mile duathlon (walking or running 20 miles and cycling 30 miles) across Scotland from Kintail to Beauly. The event is organised by volunteers to raise funds for charities across the Highlands. Since 1983, over £6.6m has been raised and distributed in full to deserving causes.

Story

Most of you visiting this page will know me, and will know that I am not an athelete.

Big boned, genourously proportioned, sturdy; chunk; gut-bucket, lard ass, pavement craker, salad dodger : These are all words that have been used to describe me.

So why am I doing a fifty mile duatholon?

That's right 50 miles! 20 miles running, followed by 30 miles cycling.  Coast to coast from Kintail to Beauly through Glen Affric.   The route is not flat!!

The answer, as so often in my life, is beer.  During a beer fuelled conversation with Doug Courts I was goaded into it. Unfortunately Doug remembered the conversation (I didn't).

So now I am in serious training.  It's going OK.  Despite the fact that I haven't run for 20 years I am up to 10k distances.

That said, my knees are protesting - seventeen stone is seventeen stone.

The event is on 20th June.  I would love your support on the day.

However, if you can't be there I would love your support in the form of sponsorship.

The money raised (and I mean every penny of the money raised) will go to 4 Highland charities.

Highland Disability Sport

Merkinch Community Centre

Multiple Sclerosis Society - Inverness & Nairn Branch

Skye and Lochalsh Mental Health Association

More details about the charities, and the event, can be found at:- http://www.highlandcross.co.uk/frame.htm

My aim is to raise £300.

Go on donate £4 now. Don't wait - do it now.

Update 28/5/9 - Due to popularity (genorosity) I have withdrawn my "pints the night before for sponsorhip offer" below.  However, all qualifying donations before today's date will still lead to beerage the night before.  Gulp!!

And a special offer for rich sadists out there (calling Scott Thiel). For any individual donation of £30 I will drink a pint of beer the night before the event. For any donation of £50 or more I will drink two pints of beer.

ps - Mum. That last para doesn't apply to you.
